Building the perfect Beehive.

My Beehive has quickly become my staple 'look'. I am against the idea that a Beehive is only for special occassions as I regulary beehive my hair for work. However, I do understand where this view has come from, creating the perfect beehive takes a lot of practice and therefore a lot of time. Here I will outline how I create my daily beehive and also how to glam it up for special occassions. Photos will be added at a later date, as I am far too poorly for pics right now.

What you will need:
Back combing brush *essential* I bought mine from Primark for £1
Kirby Grips/ Bobby Pins - amount depends on how much hair you have, I use lots for my mane.
Got2B Powderful Volumising Powder - optional but really helps puff up the hair and hold it in place. £3 Asda.
Hair Spray - to finish off the whole look.

Step One: Section the hair from the top of the ear, upwards towards the crown of your head on both sides. Tie the remainder hair back out of the way.

Step Two: Split the top section into three; two sides and a top.

Step Three: Now each of the three sections needs to be split again, a front section (closest to your face) which will remain smooth and a back section which will be back combed.

Step Four: Concentrate on the back sections and start backcombing. I hold my brush at the base of the hair and at a 45 degree angle and move quickly in short strokes towards my head, I gradually move the brush down the length of the hair easing up as I reach half way so the ends stay smooth.

Step Five: Once each back section has been backcombed pin it in place around your head. Once all Three sections have been backcombed, its time to fill in the gaps.

Step Six: Take a small piece between of the three sections and backcomb them together, then clip the section in place. These pieces should blend the sections together to form the beehive shape.

Step Seven: Taking the front sections, back comb slightly at the root to lift the hair then smooth over all other sections to create the finished product. Pin into place once you are happy with the shape and smoothness.

Styling the back of your hair dependson the length and also the occassion. For work, I usually put it into a ponytail or into a scruffy bun. But for special occassions I usually do some twists or a braids. Check out the youtube videos below from some very inspirational ladies. I'd recommend looking through their other videos for lots more hair styling ideas!

I regularly get compliments on my look when I have my hair beehived, its a very easy way to add a bit of retro glamour to any outfit. Hope this is useful!

Lots of Love.
